Homos hooking it up!

missing link skull In case you haven’t seen the image put on display by Google, they’re advertising the recently discovered “missing link.” I actually caught a glimpse of this story on the History channel, but I didn’t stay tuned due to commercial whorism.

Anyway, according to this article at National Geographic, archaeologists in Ethiopia discovered remains of a skeleton between 250,000 and 500,000 years old that is purported to be the link between Homo erectus and Homo sapien. If it’s true, this could clear up a lot of confusion in the evolutionary chain between these two species. One of the key characteristics is the more domed shaped cranium which makes room for our massive brains (though that doesn’t apply to all of us).

Isn’t evolution fun?!
