Ever think about where you live?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

For several months I’ve been planning to sell my car because I’m leaving the country.  If I weren’t leaving, however, I would still be considering selling my car and moving to the city for a number of reasons, mainly: it’s expensive to own and operate a car, driving is bad for the environment, and drunk driving is a terrible risk to take.  This week on GOOD blog, Andrew Price posted on the location efficiency of urban vs. other areas with respect to CO2 emissions: although cities are typically higher per acre, they have much lower per household carbon emission.  It’s not just about the environment: check the Housing and Transportation Affordability Index to see Gas Cost Impacts and the H+T index for the DMV area.  If you live in Fairfax County, chances are high that you spend 45+% annual income on housing and transportation.
