‘Happy Farms’ Game Destroys Chinese Jobs, Relationships

Recently, the first thing Chinese netizens do upon turning on their computers each day is “grow crops” and “steal crops”. This is a game called “Happy Farms”. Even though “stealing crops” online cannot bring any real benefits to the players, more and more people are joining the game and getting addicted. Because of this game, some players have been fired, lovers have broken up, but none of them can stop “Happy Farms” from becoming increasingly popular. The game developers only allow 2 million new players every day, but there are still more people waiting to play. If you are not a “farmer”, you are behind the times. So why are Chinese people so crazy about this game?

Social Networking Goodness

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I’m in like with you. Such an odd phrase, but it evokes a little tingle even when the source of the phrase is nothing more than inanimate words; probably because you’re imagining a complete stranger, a figure you’ve given life only in your mind and suddenly fallen in like with, saying these words to you. I know I am.

But what’s really behind that link? An interactive goulash of game-atude and people you’ll likely never know who are, I’d imagine, all quite attractive. Chalk one up for the social networking genre; this site’s freakin’ awesome. The main page is a horde of flashy goodness that provides for you both a glimpse at its cornucopia of entertaining things you’re going to use to kill minutes that never had a chance and images of registered, attractive females you’ll try to click on only to find yourself joining a game you didn’t actually have any interest in playing… or something.

Anyway, I don’t want to send you out into the wild of iminlikewithyou without at least one recommendation: Blockles! It’s war with Tetris, and it’s awesome. It takes me back to the days of TetriNET and Tetris Battle Gaiden [youtube link], one of the coolest games I ever owned for the SNES–a game I got while I lived in Japan which required me to mod my American SNES to play it (a mod that required cutting some plastic tabs off; diehard SNES players of old, you know what I mean!). Ah, memories.
